Facebook is marching forward with its F8, its annual developer conference.

Despite the backlash over the Cambridge Analytica data abuse over the past few weeks, Facebook is marching forward with its F8, its annual developer conference. How will Facebook continue to push developers to build on its platform while maintaining strict control over how data is shared with app makers? For all the updates regarding data privacy, new tools, Oculus, and more, follow along here.

Facebook F8 (pronounced "eff eight") is a mostly-annual conference held by Facebook, intended for developers and entrepreneurs who build products and services around the website. It is hosted in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, previously in San Francisco (until 2016) and now in San Jose, in Silicon Valley. Previous events have started with a keynote speech by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, followed by various breakout sessions concentrating on specific topics. Facebook has often introduced new features, and made new announcements, at the conference.

The "F8" name comes from Facebook's tradition of 8 hour hackathons.

The scheduling of F8 has been somewhat erratic. No conferences were held in 2009, 2012 or 2013, and the date for the 2011 conference was announced late in the year.
